A Thai, Rattanakosin period style, period second half of the 19th century. Here, the Buddha sits atop a three-tiered base making the earth- touching gesture (‘bhumisparsa mudra’), wearing lavish courtly robes with ornate jewellery and decoration, as well as a tall winged crown. The bronze figure is underpainted with red (on the base) and black lacquer, and is almost entirely gilded. Two rings to hang this valuable statuette from the wall of a temple are found on the back of the bronze figure. The casting core is present on the inside at the bottom.
An exquisite, detailed piece that, apart from some colour scuffing due to age, displays no damage.
