Pure Land, he was either a Monk or King and became a Buddha by committing to 48 vows. Late 17th -early 18th century represented standing with his hands performing the gesture of teaching in Abhaya and Varada Mudra on a Lotus Pedestal. Supported on an elaborate galleried and stepped base with finials in the form of seated Shishi, Minogame, and tigers carved into the panels. The panels on the elaborate base represent three of the four Shijin, The Guardians of the Cardinal points, generally shown as a Dragon, Phoenix, Tiger and Tortoise.
