  • Our Story

The collaboration between The Mill and 508 Gallery celebrates artistry, sustainability, and cultural heritage through handcrafted textiles that honour traditional Namibian weaving techniques. The Mill’s rugs and blankets, made from rare Swakara wool—sourced exclusively from a specific region of Namibia—reflect the country’s natural beauty while supporting artisans in rural areas where unemployment is around 80%. By partnering with 508 Gallery, The Mill’s exceptional products reach a global audience, offering luxury goods that blend heritage, craft, and sustainability with a deeper narrative.

  • OUR WOOL

    OUR WOOL

The 100% wool rugs are handwoven using wool from the rare, free-grazing Swakara sheep, found only in Namibia’s southern plains. Naturally enriched with lanolin, this wool is exceptionally soft, durable, and stain resistant. The fibres are hand-spun by master artisans, preserving their natural creamy off-whites to deep browns, free from dyes, and reflecting the untouched Namibian landscape. Each piece is crafted on traditional handlooms, blending artisanal heritage with resilience. Our wool carries the Furmark seal, ensuring strict adherence to environmental and animal welfare standards, with annual audits that guarantee sustainability and ethical farming practices.

  • OUR ARTISANS

    OUR ARTISANS

The Mill’s artisans are masters of traditional weaving techniques, preserving Namibia’s rich cultural heritage through their craft. Using handlooms, they transform rare wool fibres into exquisite rugs and blankets, each piece infused with history and cultural identity. When you choose The Mill, you are investing in more than a product—you’re supporting the preservation of a centuries-old tradition. Our artisans blend heritage with contemporary design to create timeless, modern pieces that keep this craft alive.

Beyond our products, The Mill is committed to sustainability and the wellbeing of the artisans. We work closely with Namibian weaving communities, ensuring fair wages and ongoing support. Our mission extends beyond employment to fostering education, skills development, and opportunities for personal and communal growth. Each purchase directly contributes to the wellbeing of these artisans, empowering them to build secure futures and uplifting their families and communities.

At The Mill, every rug tells a story—of cultural legacy, craftsmanship, and a brighter future for those who create them.
